For Our Future Virginia Congratulates Schuyler VanValkenburg
Progressive Organizing Group Helps Maintain Critical Seat in State Legislature

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA— Tonight, as the Democratic Party of Virginia seeks to take the majority in the state legislature, For Our Future Virginia congratulates Delegate Schuyler VanValkenburg in winning his election. The organization played a key role in keeping the state House seat in District 72. Since entering the field in May, For Our Future Virginia reached out to voters at their doors more than 200,000 times across the Richmond metro and Hampton Roads regions on behalf of a slate of progressive candidates.

State Director Antwaun Griffin had this to say when the results were announced, “Delegate VanValkenburg has been an exemplary leader standing up for his constituents in the Richmond metro area and across the Commonwealth. We look forward to this progressive champion building on his great work in the House.”

Griffin continued, “We are excited to have made another downpayment on lasting progressive change. This is our third successful cycle galvanizing the progressive vote for Virginia, and we are ready for 2020.”

For Our Future mobilized voters in support of VanValkenburg by knocking on doors, producing mailers, and running digital ads. Organizers and volunteers also sent text messages, wrote postcards, and placed calls to help turn Virginia blue.

After the election, For Our Future will work with in-state partners to hold the legislature accountable in achieving well-funded, high-quality public schools, an economy that works for everyone, affordable access to health care, and clean air and water for all who live in the Commonwealth.

BACKGROUND: Founded in 2016, For Our Future Action Fund and For Our Future run the largest, permanent progressive field program across seven states: FL, MI, NV, OH, PA, VA, and WI. Along with community partners, the groups organize all-year-long around issues, legislative advocacy, and campaigns to win elections and help build the lasting power needed to improve people’s lives. The groups plan to raise $80 million for its grassroots efforts in 2020 to advance progressive legislation, defeat President Trump, and pick up seats in races key to redistricting.
